My Gear – Backpacks & Bags

If you travel with more than what you can carry in your pockets, this is an important category. Normally I carry two bags when I travel. A 40 litre backpack and some kind of messenger style bag. My clothes and other items (non-breakable) in the backpack and in the messenger bag goes my netbook and my camera. I also throw my passport, extra cash, plane tickets, etc in there too. That way the stuff that’s fragile or super important is always on my side.

REI Venturi 45L Backpack

Adam: This isn’t my exact backpack. I have a model that is a year or two older and mine isn’t a 45L it’s a 40L. Either way, it’s pretty much the same bag. I like it. It’s easy to pack, comfortable to carry, affordable, and best of all it I can use it as a carry on.DescriptionThe REI Venturi 45 pack offers a light, agile and comfortable way to carry your gear from ridgeline to ridgeline on long day hikes or quick overnight trips.

Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag

Amazon REI Altrec
Adam: I’ve got two of these bad boys and I love them. They seriously rock. They are constructed out of a super tough outside material and the inside is lined so water can’t get through. What does this mean? You can wreck your bike and slide through an intersection on top of the bag an not much is going to happen. Or you can get caught in a downpour and not have to worry about you laptop! I’ve got the Red/Black – Medium for around town and the Black/Small for travel. DescriptionAfter two decades of nurturing, we’ve pushed our classic messenger out of the nest and onto the street. Armed with a vastly improved cam buckle, side-entry Napoleon pocket, color-coordinated, three-zipper front organizer, and an incredibly useful slash pocket, our Classic Messenger is all grown up. These feature upgrades mean better performance in everyday urban adventures. If only we’d been this wise at 17. Mfr. Site

Pacsafe Venturesafe 300

REI Amazon
Adam: Before I switched to the Timbuk2 bag I used this. I loved everything about it. It was comfortable, well placed zippers/pockets, and it had great security features. My problem with it was the size. I had a hard time fitting my DSLR and laptop at the same time. Not really the fault of Pacsafe but just a limitation I wasn’t willing to deal with. Overall, I give it two thumbs up.DescriptionWith convenient organizational compartments and a fresh design, the PacSafe VentureSafe 300 is a great travel bag that carries everything you need for a day of exploring the local market or sights.
