Say Goodbye to Emails

Email is something we all use on a day to day basis but it’s not something that we think about a lot. It has become such a staple of our daily lives that we don’t give it much thought. Kind of like driving or going to work, but it can be a huge time sucker.

Most of my life I have been an I.T. professional. What does that mean in terms of email? It means that I have had a phone with email for many years and it also means that I get A LOT of email. I was used to getting 25 – 75 emails per day. Read the rest of this entry

Yes, that’s right. I didn’t hit the zero key an extra time or two. As of writing this Gary Vaynerchuk has 846,529 followers on twitter. I know its not 850,000 but I don’t care it’s close enough and 850k sounds better than 846k.

If you haven’t heard of this guy then you need to ingest all you can of what he says. His ideas are unique. His story is nothing short of amazing and I think the best is yet to come.

8 Must Have Netbook Apps

Having seen a recent post over at Life Excursion titled “What to Bring on Your World Domination Excursion” I got an idea. In his post he states how awesome the MSI Wind is. As some of you may know, I also have one of these little wonders of technology and I also think that it totally rocks! I’m actually writing this post on it right now!

This gave me an idea. What programs do I use on this netbook on a daily basis? After coming up with a few I decided it was time for a list! Read the rest of this entry

The Importance of Backups

Let me first start off by saying this…

I am a hypocrite.

Yup, that’s right.

I’m an I.T. guy and have been for years and years. I’ve had the “you should think about a backup solution” talk with countless clients. Some as a preventive measure and some as an afterthought.

Up until about 6 months ago I had always had a desktop computer with massive storage space. I also always had either a server or an external hard drive in my house to make a second copy of my important files. While I was employed I also paid for an online backup service for my off site backup. Read the rest of this entry

Google Voice and the Vagabonder

If you haven’t heard of Google Voice yet you are probably a normal person who leads a normal non-techie lifestyle. For you I say shame. Shame on you! Google Voice might be the best thing since the toaster (not quite as good as sliced bread but still pretty awesome).

The benefits of GV can heavily come into play for the vagabond. If you are curious about GV watch these videos… Read the rest of this entry

M80's Top 9 Google G1 Apps

Here I will be listing in moderate detail my top 9 G1 applications.

I’ve found the G1 to be an awesome phone. It does just about everything I need and a little extra. There are however, a few things I’d like to see changed about it. We can get into that later though.

Without any further delay… Read the rest of this entry

Rap Video Sponsored by Seagate

Totally rad rap video. I knew I should have been a rapper. Nerd rap is a totally untapped market.

“Wanna burn a disc? How bout’ a DvD?”

That’s right boys and girls. I have not been a good little boy. I guess I know what I’m getting for Christmas. Nothing but a lump of coal. I guess the good people over at HBO don’t take to kindly to people taking full advantage of their high speed cable connection.

I recently spent about a month living down in California and just couldn’t go without a decent cable connection. I did what anyone would do and ordered internet from Charter Communications. Since they are so kind as to not limit how much bandwidth I use (unlike the nice people over at Bend Broadband) I go crazy. Downloading anything and everything I might like. By that I mean all the latest linux distros, watching shows on Hulu, and many other various forms of LEGAL bandwidth consumption. Read the rest of this entry

Zoto 3.0 – Photo Sharing Review

I ran across Zoto in quest to find a decent and cheap online backup for my all my photos. I love to take photos and a lot of my photos are in in RAW format, so they can take up a lot of room.

I started reading about Zoto and it seemed like it might fit the bill for all my JPGs and I was ok with that.

Turns out that Zoto wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but it turned out to be pretty cool never the less. Some say a Flickr wanna be but I say so what…who cares?

Zoto allows you to create folders and upload as many photos as you like. Share or make them private. They can handle photos up to 20mb in size and they offer a pretty cool interface. There is a lot of technology that you’ve seen before like a lightbox but they do it well and it looks good.

There is also a simple uploader you can put on you computer and all you have to do is drag and drop the individual photos or a whole folder. I would have liked to seen the folder structure be keep instead of just uploading into a “all photos” folder. It creates a lot of extra work in the name of organization.

All in all I think Zoto is a fair opponent to Flickr if you take into consideration the unlimited storage.

Zoto gets a thumbs up for me if I want to share photos with friends but as photo backup it just doesn’t cut it.

Then again, it’s not trying to be a backup service.

Economy Changing Free Web Apps?

I’ve been reading a lot about bigger web companies laying of 10% or 25% of their staff in both reactive and proactive strategies to lower costs to make up for bad economy. This brings up some interesting questions, one of which tends to make me worry.

Are all these free web services we use everyday going to make a jump to paid services?

Things like Gmail, Pandora, Mint, etc, etc. Read the rest of this entry
