Waldport Beach Resort – 70’s Porn Adventure

This weekend myself and the little lady took a short trip to the Oregon Coast. It was a last minute “I need to get out of town” kind of trip. After searching and searching for a nice little hotel room we were coming up with a lot of the same generic stuff for about $60-$80. Then the misses and I had an idea. Why not make it fun? Get a room with a hot tub/Jacuzzi? We did some searching and found a few that sounded promising.

After a few calls we had a room at the Waldport Beach Hotel for $99 if we paid cash. Sounds great right? Well for starters we had no idea what the room looked like or even really the facility since their website was lacking. She tried her best to describe the room and the layout. The lady on the other end of the phone convinced us that we had nothing to fear.

The next day we set off. We spent most of the day in Newport, Oregon and later that evening we headed for our hotel room. We show, pay, get our keys and head toward the room. By this time there was a strong storm brewing and winds were picking up and the rain was starting to come down. Finally we find our room…#119. We walk in flip the lights on and I’m stunned for words. The only thing that comes out of my mount is “the mirrors…they’re everywhere.”

This room looked like it came out of a 70’s porn flick. Wood paneling, floor to ceiling mirrors, and a king sized bed seated atop a raised platform. Almost all the lights were controlled by dimmer switches and the only thing missing was a coin operated bed and a mirror or two above the bed!

After calming down and throwing my bag down I realized that it’s damn cold in here and I should probably turn the heater on. I turn the dial to 95 degrees and wait…and wait some more. Nothing is happening. I search the room only to find a small base board heater. I think to myself, I’ve seen dog poop put off more heat that this! Needless to say we had to take a stroll to the main office and request a space heater. The bed was pretty uncomfortable. Not exactly what I had expected.

Overall, I must say for being as old as that room probably is it was very clean. I had no hesitation hoping into the bed or stepping into the shower without my flip flops.

The town of Waldport Oregon is very small. I think the population is around 2500. Keep that in mind as most people will want to drive the 15 miles or so to Newport.

The storm that night was pretty intense. High winds with a fair amount of rain and thunderstorms made for an interesting night.
