Minimalist Lifestyle – Update #2
It has been just over a year since I last posted an update about becoming a minimalist. I haven’t been able to travel any where near as much as I’d like to but I can say that my road to becoming a minimalist has been fairly successful.
I have been able to eliminate 90% of my debt. I only owe money to my dentist due to a medical emergency.
I sold off/donated 80+% of my belongings and have stored most of whats left in a storage unit that is 8x10ft. The unit is only about 3/4 full.
I have lived in a few different places only taking with me (for the most part) a backpack. Which by the way is an Osprey Atmos 50 in Cindercone Red seen below.

In the past year I have also only picked up a few new items. One of which is a new fly fishing pole. Fly fishing is among one my favorite past times. I’ve also swapped out some of my old clothes for new ones. And lastly I had to dig some winter clothes out of the storage unit since it has been in the -10F range the past week.
As for living on pretty much just what I can carry (for the most part) has been liberating. Having been employed on and off over the past year hasn’t been a big problem either. With little to no debt and very cheap rent I was able to survive on minimal income and what I had saved. Currently, I’m working full time for an outdoor gear store and love the job. I’m also hoping that it will allow me to continue to build my cash reserves and finish paying off my remaining debt.
All I can stay is that it hasn’t been easy but, it was well worth the effort. I’ve learned a lot about myself and how much I don’t need. I’ve been able to find joy in other things than TV or video games. One of the things I have re-discovered is having a good time with some old friends as well as some new ones too!
If you haven’t started yet then get going. Only if it’s the smallest step. Clean out that spare room or that clutter corner in the garage. My rule of thumb at first was…Have I used this in the last 6 months? No? GONE!

Congrats on joining the minimalist crew. The freedom it allows is amazing.
Also, thanks for mentioning LifeExcursion here as well as the minimalist path. Hopefully, LifeExcursion will be back to decent standards soon after all the design issues are worked out.

Always happy to show links that I think have useful information. Yeah, I noticed some/most of the images were not working on one of the sites. Keep up the good work!
